I’ve Had Enough Pears

Hallelujah! That’s probably what you’re saying as I show this last “Pear Study” — this one done with Daler-Rowney Oil Pastels. Yes, following yesterday’s re-discovery of this medium, I had to try it for a pear, and I can’t say that I’m too disappointed. It’s definitely a pear, and even though it was only a very quick “study”, there are things I like about this piece.

But, as I was browsing pear images in search of a good reference photo, I just shook my head. No, enough! I’ve drawn all the pears I want to draw — for now, at least. Perhaps sometime in the future I’ll see an interesting pear, or one will come up in a lesson or video tutorial I’m following, so you may yet see more pears in the future.

Not for a while, though. Aren’t you delighted?

So, what next… bananas? Oranges? Cherries? I’m only kidding. Most likely there will be a few fruits from time to time as I re-visit old art courses and follow along with different projects, but more and more I think I’ll be finding my way back home — back to Mother Earth and the landscape drawings and paintings I so love to do.

These last few weeks have been adventurous ones. I’ve played a bit with watercolor — just to ease my way back into the studio — then worked a lot on my graphite drawing skills. I’ve dug out my charcoals, my oil pastels, and I’ve done a few ink and pen drawings. My set of Prismacolor Premier colored pencils got a bit of a work-out, and I’ve practiced each of these mediums with pears, pears, and more pears. No wonder you’re tired of seeing pears. No wonder I’m tired of drawing them!

Time to move on now.

Oh, but there are still soft pastels to play with again. Hmmm… maybe one more pear? Nope, not a chance. I’ve definitely had enough pears!
