Happy New Year to all my “Artistcoveries” friends. I hope this year brings you many opportunities to express yourself creatively — through drawing, painting, writing, music, and other art forms you enjoy.
I’ve started my New Year off this morning by finishing a canvas that’s been sitting on my easel for a while. I knew what I wanted to paint. I just hadn’t gotten around to it. This morning my husband was called in to work, so finding myself with a little unexpected “quiet time”, I picked up a pencil, sketched out the scene on my canvas, and then grabbed paints and brushes.
Having been painting in oil for a little over a year now, I’m gradually beginning to see what styles, colors, and scenes I most enjoy. I love doing landscapes, and so far, my favorites have been autumn scenes.
Last November I spent a lovely morning hiking the trails at a nearby park, taking a lot of photos along the way. This oil painting is based on one of those photos. I’ve titled it “Finding My Way” because it represents what I most enjoy in oil painting.

I hope to do more painting this year, to continue learning and improving my techniques, and possibly to take a few art classes. I’m looking forward to an art-filled year in 2018.
Thank you for sharing my journey and encouraging me as I continue to find my way in the world of art.
Happy New Year!

I think this painting is beautiful and symbolic. You are on a path. Fantastic.

Thank you so much, Claudia. I enjoyed my November walk in the park, so this painting does have a very special meaning to me. And, as you said, it is symbolic. Each painting I do takes me one step closer to where I want to be.

I think I also liked the idea that the path kind of dissolve in the distance – we don’t see a destination – and so the journey is open. I liked that feeling of horizons out there that right now, we can’t even see.

🙂 I hope that does reflect my art journey. I love the thought of venturing toward things I can’t even imagine. It’s a very exciting thought.

Happy New Year, Judith! Lovely painting, nature is very inspiring and I wonder what is just out of sight, further along that path??/on your art journey! 🙂

Thanks! My plans for 2018 are to focus a lot on drawing — I miss doing graphite sketches — and work, too, on improving my oil paintings. I’m excited for the new year.
