Below is a watercolor I did earlier this month as part of Ida Andersen Lang’s “Art Soul Gathering”. I guess she’s supposed to be a goddess, or a fairy queen, or something mystical and magical. For me, she was just a chance for me to practice free-hand drawing in a loose, easy-going way. I didn’t strive for perfection. Rather, my intention was to just sit down and enjoy drawing and painting. I find her to be charming in her own way.
The question remains, though. Who is she? The odd thing about this drawing — to me — is that she somehow bears a resemblance to my mother. Or maybe it’s only my imagination. Most likely it’s the hair. Or maybe her lips.
What do you think? Have I created a goddess, a fairy queen, or a memory of my mother in her younger days?

I really like the colors and her smile. I’d say she’s a fairy, but then I’m fond of fairies. 😊

Beautiful! She looks so much like your mom! I think we sometimes carry archetypes composed of early memories of our moms. For me, it’s the arch of the foot… when I see arches like my mom’s, I feel I’ve seen something magical or divine!

I guess we have memories “imprinted” in our brain — without even realizing it sometimes. After I had drawn and painted the figure, I had to get out a old photograph of my mother just to compare.
