Art Quiz: The Answer Is Grant Wood

Oh, yes. American Gothic. Certainly one of the most recognized paintings in art history, and speaking of history, here’s a bit about the painting:

Visiting Eldon, Iowa in the summer of 1930, the artist was struck by a little white cottage with a single oversized window, created in a style known as Carpenter Gothic. He sketched out the house on an envelope, determined to use it as a backdrop in what would become his most famous painting.

In American Gothic, the painter used his sister Nan and his dentist Byron McKeeby as models for a farmer and his daughter, dressing them as what he referred to as tintypes from my old family album. The house, his sister and his dentist were painted in separate sessions. — From Widewalls

We’ve all seen the painting, not only in its actual form, but in many different parodies. Since the holidays are upon us, I couldn’t resist sharing a few “Christmas” versions of “American Gothic.”

My favorite is the center — Mr. and Mrs. Snowman. What’s your favorite here?
